Utica Cutlery of New York State just happens to make an actual, high quality, USA flag knife, and I can't wait to tell you about it!

Right from the start, The artwork is Super Nice for this style of knives. The blade gives you a full set of options for manual opening, The top flipper is well pronounced and fast to deploy, the thumb stud feels proper and gives a quick radius-out to deploy. The thumb hole/fingertip slot mid-way down the blade, gives you more options to flick the blade out with a *snap!* This is a fidgety knife, easy to get caught playing with it, where we probably shouldn't have it. It does come factory fresh, and could use a good break-in to make it lightning fast, maybe a light oil at the pivot. My slow hands don't always get the crispy snap open, but a quick wristed whip outward will snap the blade into "locked open." 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, compared to Buck Stainless 420HC, depends on how the steel is hardened. Either steel is ready to hone to a scary sharp. Compares well with Japanese Aus-8 steel. This knife will clean up and resist staining better than high carbon tool steels. Maintain the edge with one of our ceramic rod sharpeners! Sharpen right with ceramic or diamond stones. The pocket clip is long and bears the name Utica. It holds the knife low, but just above the top of the pocket. That part of the knife is black, so it's fairly concealable without going "deep pocket." It has a nice grippy shape to pull. The blade tip points down, blade forward in your right pocket. It's a good habit to put a finger or your thumb on the blade when you draw this one. The flipper is protected from opening the knife, and from messing up your pants, or your hands. Intended to carry right handed, but I believe it would be fine in the left pocket too!

Utica Cutlery is an old USA company making knives in upstate New York since 1910. Currently, they're making manufacturing changes and renaming this knife the Shanty Creek II.
